Buller and Marlborough Librarians deployed to Emergency Services
While some staff were evacuated, no one lost their homes. Others in the community were not so lucky.
PLNZ is pleased to report that no library staff in Buller or Marlborough were directly affected by the floods and both libraries are open.
However, Buller Library is restricted to four hours a day due to staff shortages. A skeleton staff is providing access to computers and assisting people with insurance claims. The issues desk is open but the real focus of the community is the clean-up.
Libraries Director Malborough, Glenn Webster and Acting Library Manager for Buller Libraries, Nicky Meadowcroft have been deployed to emergency services.
“You can’t comprehend the enormity of the devastation until you are on the ground here.” Nicky with three of her staff has been deployed to register all those people affected by the flood. Some staff have been working around the clock. “Hopefully, we will be relieved soon.” Nicky said and added ruefully, “The forecast is for more torrential rain.”
"But for now the sun is shining," said Glenn.
